List of memorial stones and stumbling blocks in Rostock

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The list of memorial stones and stumbling blocks in Rostock contains the plaques in the floor in the Hanseatic City of Rostock , which remind of the fate of the people who were murdered, deported, expelled or driven to suicide under National Socialism. As in Gunter Demnig's Stolpersteine project, the stones are slabs set in front of the homes or places of work of the victims, but are not directly related to Demnig's work. The stones have been laid in Rostock since 2000 on the initiative of the Association of Friends and Supporters of the Max-Samuel-Haus . They consist of larger stone slabs that show signs of breakage and abrasion. After Demnig did not agree to the further use of the originally used term "stumbling block", the stones laid since 2016 are referred to as "memorial stones". The new stones were given a different look and are more weather-resistant than the ones laid up to 2016.

The table is partially sortable; the basic sorting is done alphabetically according to the family name.

Jun. 2005 After her husband's death, Paula Blach was alone with three children and a watchmaker's shop (Doberaner Strasse 1a). The business was so badly affected by the November pogroms on November 9, 1938 that she had to give it up. The house on Patriotic Way, where the stumbling blocks can be found, belonged to the family. The NSDAP party headquarters in Rostock was directly opposite. Paula Blach took in the Jews whose apartment had been given notice by the landlords. One son, Herbert, came to Italy in 1936, while the daughter Marga was able to flee to Palestine in 1938. Paula Blach, together with her son Bernhard and 20 other Jews, was brought by police officers to the main train station on July 10, 1942, where they were initially deported to Ludwigslust and a day later to Auschwitz. In Birkenau, both were selected and gassed immediately upon arrival.
