List of honorary citizens of Marktredwitz

The honorary citizenship is the highest municipal award of the city of Marktredwitz . It is awarded to personalities who have made outstanding contributions to the development of the city. Since May 21, 1971, the legal basis has been the statute on the granting of honorary citizenship and other honors by the city of Marktredwitz .

Honorary citizens are invited as guests of honor at representative events in the city. If an economic emergency arises through no fault of one's own, the municipal council can approve an honorary salary once or continuously. In addition to honorary citizenship, the city awards a citizen's medal.

Since 1874 the following people have been made honorary citizens.

The honorary citizens of the large district town of Marktredwitz

  1. Maximilian Kraußold (* August 6, 1833 - April 14, 1901)
    Protestant pastor and member of the Bavarian Chamber
    Awarded on August 21, 1874
    Kraußold was a member of the state parliament from 1863 to 1881. In this role he was particularly committed to the routing of the "Fichtelgebirgsbahn" Schnabelwaid-Eger via Marktredwitz. Maximilian Kraußhold came to Marktredwitz in 1862 and since then has headed the second pastor's post. In 1887 he left Markt Redwitz for good and then became pastor in Nuremberg.
  2. Johann Konrad Bauer (born April 27, 1814 - † September 22, 1899)

    Bauer was made an honorary citizen for a generous donation to the city. He was mayor of the city of Marktredwitz. His father was a kit maker and mayor.
  3. Jonas Schletz (born October 11, 1817 - † January 15, 1899)

  4. Johannes Kaestner (born June 23, 1844 - † April 16, 1922)

    The award took place on the occasion of his 25th anniversary as well as special services to the city. He received his honorary citizenship certificate after the festive service from Mayor Prell with the members of the magistrate and the community college in his apartment.

    Carl Benker took over his father's hand weaving mill and expanded it into a colored weaving mill with more than 1000 employees in its heyday. He was also mayor of the Dörflas community for many years and founded a kindergarten in 1896.
  8. Oskar Loew (April 2, 1844 - January 26, 1941)

    Loew was the founder of calcium therapy and the inventor of calcan. In recognition of his special services, the city made him an honorary citizen.
