Hermann Braun (folklorist)

Hermann Georg Braun (born July 10, 1909 in Fleißen , † February 5, 2005 in Marktredwitz ) was a German folklorist and linguist of the Egerland . His main occupation was a teacher and also worked for 32 years as a local politician on the town council of Marktredwitz, also as the third mayor.

Life

Braun studied German, folklore , history , geography , philosophy and musicology at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen , the Ruprecht Karls University in Heidelberg , the University of Leipzig , the Philipps University in Marburg and the Karls University in Prague . Until 1940, the doctor of philosophy worked at the German Institute of Leipzig University. He worked as a teacher at the municipal vocational school and as the rector of the adult education center in Marktredwitz.

As a historian, folklorist and philologist, he dealt scientifically with regional literature, history and dialect of the so-called Norgau region and also lectured at the Marktredwitz adult education center. He was the editor of the tribal magazine Der Egerländer of Eghalanda Gmoin and from 1981 chairman of the board of the Egerland-Kulturhaus- Stiftung in Marktredwitz.
