history

The independent government history of Mato Grosso goes back to 1748, when the area was spun off as the Kapitanat Mato Grosso just like the Kapitanat Goiás from the Kapitanat São Paulo . When the Empire of Brazil was established, it became the Mato Grosso Province from 1821 to 1889 , and the Estado de Mato Grosso when the Republic of Brazil was proclaimed.
