In 1401 Odo sold the county of Geneva to Amadeus VIII of Savoy , but his heirs refused to let him own the county. In 1424, after 23 years of fighting and trials, Amadeus VIII bought the pretenders their rights to the county.

From 1424 the county of Geneva belonged to Savoy with the exception of the times when it was given to younger members of the family as an appanage .
