Karl Johann Amadeus ( Italian : Carlo Giovanni Amedeo ) (born June 23, 1489 in Turin , † April 16, 1496 in Moncalieri ) was Duke of Savoy from 1490 to 1496 .

Karl was the son of Duke Charles I and Bianca von Montferrat. Like his father Karl and like his older brother and predecessor in the ducal office, Philibert I , Karl was still a minor when he took office. The mother Bianca took over the reign of the 21-month-old heir to the throne. This fell during a particularly troubled era in Italy: In 1494, the French King Charles VIII crossed the Alps to take on the inheritance he claimed in the neighboring Duchy of Milan . The seat of government of the Savoy was moved to Turin under Bianca, where it remained until Italian unification.

Karl died in 1496 at the age of seven in a fall from his bed. Heir to the throne was his great-uncle, Philip II.

  1. In Italian historiography, Karl II. Johann Amadeus is not always counted, but understood as Carlo Giovanni Amedeo di Savoia without numbering. As a result, in French and international historiography as Charles III. or Charles III. von Savoyen called rulers occasionally to be found in German-language literature as Charles II the Good .
