Borislav Ivkov won the first junior world championship in 1951 .
The list of International Masters of 1954 lists all chess players who received the title of International Masters in 1954 from the World Chess Federation FIDE . As in previous years, the award was based on the outstanding tournament and competition results of the respective players.
In June 2016, Hans Bouwmeester , Borislav Ivkov and Óscar Panno , three of the 13 players honored at the time, are still alive. Five of the 13 players later achieved the title of grandmaster , and another was later awarded the title of honorary grandmaster .

- GM : Indicates the year of award for players who were later promoted to grandmasters.
