Hans Bouwmeester (born September 16, 1929 in Haarlem ) is a Dutch chess player .

Close chess

Hans Bouwmeester represented the Netherlands at the Chess Olympiads in 1956 , 1960 , 1962 , 1964 , 1966 , 1968 and 1970 . In 1954 he finished 15th in the Munich zone tournament , and in the same year he won the Hoogovens tournament in Beverwijk. For this he received the title of International Master from FIDE . After two runner-up titles in 1957 and 1967, he finally became Dutch champion in 1968. In the Dutch team championship he last played in the 2002/03 season with Utrecht in the top division, the Meester class . Bouwmeester has not played an Elo-rated game since the Dutch team championship in 2009/10 and is therefore listed as inactive by FIDE.

Correspondence chess

In the mid-1960s, Bouwmeester began to play correspondence chess sporadically . In 1968 he won the Dutch championship, in 1981 he won the anniversary tournament "20 years of Europe Echecs". For this, the World Correspondence Chess Federation ( ICCF) awarded him the title of Correspondence Chess Grandmaster . In the Canadian invitation tournament Bernard Freedman Memorial , he finished undefeated in 1988, 1st place with 11 out of 13 points.

Chess journalist

Bouwmeester published several books, including "The Road to Mastery" in 1980.

Private

Bouwmeester worked from 1950 to 1954 as a primary school teacher, then until 1984 as a lecturer in mathematics. After 1984 he focused on working as a chess journalist.
