Former mine 'Waldhausen'
Location
hall: 8, parcel: 68/5, 68/6, 69, 70/1, 70/2; 325
South-east of the place in the so-called "Eisenberg" district. Awards were made to Eisenstein in 1822, to manganese in 1845 and to copper ore in 1861 . The Roteisenstein that is widespread here remained decisive. After being acquired by the Krupp company in Essen, the “deep tunnel” was excavated in 1907. The open-cast mine, which had long been more extensive, came to a standstill in the 20s and 30s because of the high silica content. In 1966, the underground operation was discontinued because the deposits of suitable raw ore for the valued malleable cast iron were exhausted. The buildings of the daytime facility lined up on the Walderbach were mostly built immediately after 1945. After the tunnel entrance from west to east, the residential and operations management building, the wash house, the winding tower with machine house, workshops and the processing halls follow. The headframe of the "Würgengel" pit, constructed in 1936 in the nearby central workshop in Tiefenbach, was installed in 1951. In many cases, the basic technical equipment of the operational infrastructure is still available. In terms of order and size, the colliery gives a characteristic image of the mostly small-scale mining in the Lahn-Dill area and Weilburger Revier. It is therefore a cultural monument from the last phase of Hessian mining that is worth protecting. 52533
