Detailed memorial texts

  1. Dehio - Handbook of German Art Monuments / Saxony Volume 1:

Plastered quarry stone building with plaster structure and arched windows. In the east, the sacristy is a small, round extension. In the south on the eastward expansion entrance building on an octagonal floor plan. The mansard-like roof with segmented arched windows, the roof turret in the east on an octagonal floor plan with drum, lantern and curved hood. The west tower from 1682, in the lower part on a square floor plan, in the upper part on an octagonal floor plan, the completion from 1901. On the south side of the west building portal with basket arch and side pillars, in the expansive cornice a keystone with a Bible verse. The hall with a wooden barrel vault that widens to the east and closes like a dome. Circumferential, richly designed galleries on bulging, framed, wooden square pillars, three-storey on the north and south sides as well as in the eastern part, two-storey on the west, and in 1885 semicircular drawn forward on the upper storey. On the lower balustrades of the hall there are Bible illustrations from the Old and New Testaments, on those of the eastward expansion Christian emblemata, both with rhymes, dated 1733.
Noteworthy baroque painting: in the barrel of the hall above a stone-imitating cornice that closes off the wall, depictions of clouds and angels and the allegories of faith and love, in the middle of the eastward expansion a god's eye with surrounding groups of clouds and angels, by Gottfried Weise 1733.
Features: Magnificent ciborium altar. The altar is surrounded by four semicircular columns that support a strongly profiled cornice, above four curved arches with acanthus tendrils that form the cimborium. Altar with two lateral pilasters placed over a corner, above a rounded arch. The altarpiece is a stucco relief depicting Christ on the Mount of Olives, allegorical figures of love and faith above the side passages to the sacristy, dated 1787. - Wooden, hexagonal pulpit on the north gallery, on the basket with fluting, the sound cover with leaf stick and fabric hangers, Strong acanthus tendrils above it, an urn at the end, dated 1788. - The triangular wooden baptismal table with caryatid-like angel figures, the pewter basin, dated 1725. - Richly decorated, magnificent, baroque organ front with acanthus tendrils, fruit cords, vases and flowers, 1685 by Christoph Dressel from Leipzig built in cooperation with the carpenter Heinrich Prescher from Zittau and the court carver Paul Hartmann from Jena, moved here from the Zittau Johanniskirche in 1738. - Wooden crucifix on the south pore, around 1700. Behind the altar, a confessional with arched cornice and Corinthian pilasters.
On the outside wall of the church there are several grave monuments from the 18th and 19th centuries, including the sandstone epitaph for Johann Christoph Dreßler and his family: its curved, rocaille-studded base bears two inscription panels in rococo frames, above two small angels and an urn as a closure 1772.
