Madonna statue The 18th century wooden statue was transferred to the rectory of Moutiers-sur-le-Lay on November 22, 1978 . It has been repainted several times. The child's missing right arm was replaced with a new one made of plaster of paris. The St-Brice Chapel, where it originally stood, was one of the most popular pilgrimage sites in Bas- Poitou in the 19th century . Every year on August 15th, thousands of pilgrims gathered there for a procession , and mass is still celebrated on this day . Sainte Pexine is the only parish in Vendée that does not have a church.
