List of nature reserves in Brunei
The list of nature reserves in Brunei includes all nature reserves , including national parks in Southeast Asian Brunei . The protected areas are managed by the Forestry Department of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism . According to the IUCN, there are (as of April 2020) 56 protected areas that cover an area of 2794 km² and thus almost half of the area of Brunei. In addition, 52 km² of the South China Sea are under protection.
Brunei distinguishes between the following types of protected areas:
- National park
- Nature reserve
- Forest reserve (currently not in the list)
- Wildlife sanctuary
- Protected area
- ASEAN monument
