Josef Ringelsheim , from 1865 Freiherr von Ringelsheim (also Joseph von Ringelsheim ; born March 14, 1820 in Salzburg , † June 2, 1893 in Graz ) was an Austrian general .

Life

Ringelsheim graduated from the Theresian Military Academy , was appointed ensign there in 1838 and, after passing the so-called higher course, was appointed lieutenant in infantry regiment No. 12 in 1839 . He worked in mapping and was promoted to first lieutenant on May 27, 1846 , transferred to quartermaster staff on May 5, 1847 and made captain on June 13, 1848 .

Ringelsheim took part in the Italian campaigns. In this context he was promoted to major on November 8, 1849, to lieutenant colonel on April 12, 1854, and to colonel in the quartermaster staff on October 21, 1857 . In the campaign of 1859 he made a name for himself as Chief of Staff of the V Army Corps.

Ringelsheim rose to major general on April 26, 1865 . At the same time, he was appointed to the board of the country descriptive bureau abroad . During the campaign against Prussia in 1866 he was a brigadier in the 1st Army Corps and at the battle of Königgrätz he served as an adlatus to Archduke Ernst due to his calm manner . After the war he was initially a brigadier in Vienna and on July 3, 1869 was given command of the 2nd division there. In this position he was promoted to Lieutenant Field Marshal on October 24, 1869 .

Ringelsheim came to Sibiu on September 15, 1870 as commander of the 16th troop division and as a military commander . There he was appointed owner of the 30th Infantry Regiment on April 9, 1876, before he was transferred to Brno as Commanding General on October 19, 1878 . On November 1, 1878, he was promoted to Feldzeugmeister , and on April 1, 1883, he finally retired voluntarily .

He was buried in the St. Leonhards cemetery in Graz.
