Christoph Tepperberg

Christoph Tepperberg (born May 31, 1952 in Oberwart ) is an Austrian historian . He was director of the war archive in Vienna.

Life

Tepperberg was born in Burgenland in 1952 as the son of the Protestant pastor Kurt Tepperberg . His older brother is the state archivist Joachim Tepperberg. After attending the Bundesrealgymnasium and the (Protestant music-pedagogical) Realgymnasium Oberschützen , he did military service in the Austrian Armed Forces . From 1971 he studied history, ancient history, philosophy, Jewish studies and ethnology at the University of Vienna . From 1974 to 1977 he completed the 54th training course at the Institute for Austrian Historical Research in Vienna (state examination 1977; examination thesis on the textbook Duke Albrechts III.). In 1978 he was with Herwig Wolfram with the dissertation The Lords of Puchheim in the Middle Ages. Contributions to the history of the rural nobility of Lower Austria to the Dr. phil. PhD.

In 1977 he joined the research project "Germania Judaica" at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem . In 1979 he came to the House, Court and State Archives Department of the Austrian State Archives in Vienna as a contract employee . There he researched the late Middle Ages and early modern times . In 1980 he moved to the war archive department. In 1982 he completed basic training at the Federal Administration Academy . In 1983 he became head of the personnel files department and IT officer of the war archive. From 1996 to 2001 he was head of the inventory group of personnel records. In 1997 he became a councilor and in 2000 (retrospectively) received the title Master of Advanced Studies for Historical Research and Archival Science (MAS). From 2001 until his retirement in 2019 he was director of the war archive.

He is a member of the Autrichienne d'Histoire Militaire Commission (since 2003 Secretary General of the Comité des Archives Militaires). He is also a member of the Institute for Austrian Studies, the Evangelical Museum Association, the Heraldic-Genealogical Society "Adler" , the Museum Association Oberschützen, the Association for the History of the City of Vienna , the Association for Science, the Association for Regional Studies of Lower Austria and the Association of Austrian Archivists and archivists .

Tepperberg published several articles in the Austrian Biographical Lexicon 1815-1950 . He is also a freelancer for the Jewish cultural magazine David .

He has been awarded the Golden Medal of Honor for Services to the Austrian Black Cross - War Graves Commission.

Tepperberg is married and has two children.
