The castle of Kaysersberg

The Reichsvogtei zu Kayserberg was subordinate to the Landvogtei Alsace and represented the emperor or the pawnbroker in the three imperial cities of Kaysersberg , Münster in the Gregoriental and Türckheim . There the Reichsvogt, with the support of his mayors and their wives, held the lower and higher jurisdictions . In Maleficent -Fällen or blood stuff the preliminary investigation (were inquisitio ) and possibly the detention ( incarceratio ) made the perpetrator of the city council until the kingdom Vogt determined the "Malefiztag" and the court with civil aldermen occupied. He is then not iudex , but prosecutor alongside a Stettmeister. The Reichsvogt was rewarded as patron of the Reichsuntertanen in kind and with an annual official salary. Old noble families of southern Germany held this office, sometimes in addition to the function of Unterland- or Oberlandvogts. If the patron was of a higher rank, like the Palatinate electors or the Archduke Ferdinand , Count of Tyrol and the Vorlande , then he chose his deputy either from his own house or from the regional nobility. The office was transferred to the male heirs for longer periods within a noble family. The only exception was Helene Eleonore von Schwendi in the very turbulent 17th century. Either she took over the management of the Reichsvogtei herself with the support of a devoted administrator, or she entrusted this function to her two husbands.
