List of districts of Krems an der Donau

The districts of Krems.
The numbering is clockwise and has no special meaning

Krems an der Donau is the fifth largest city in the largest Austrian state of Lower Austria . The urban area is divided into ten districts which, unlike Graz or Vienna, are not numbered. The Große Krems , which sometimes also serves as the district boundary ,runs right through the city from north to southeast. All parts of the city except for Egelsee and Krems-Süd have grown together into one urban area.

After the cadastral community Weinzierl was incorporated in 1905, the urban area was divided as follows:

  • Old town ( Wartbergviertel, Prucknerviertel, Höllviertel, Hülbenviertel )
  • Suburbs ( Eselstein, Gartenau, Hohenstein, Mitterau, And, Weinzierl )

After Austria was annexed to the German Reich, Krems was designated the capital of Lower Austria and 14 cadastral communities were incorporated, whereupon the population rose to almost 32,000. Of these, only Landersdorf, Rehberg and Stein remained with the city after 1948.

Twenty years after Gneixendorf was a district of Krems, the place was incorporated again in 1968. As a result, the city again had its own airfield.

The largest number of incorporations took place in 1972/73, with the municipalities of Egelsee and Scheibenhof being incorporated first in 1972. This was followed in 1973 by the "Großgemeinde Hollenburg" south of the Danube, which was founded two years ago.
