They are intended to commemorate victims of National Socialism who lived and worked in Gelsenkirchen.

Andreas Schillack jun. worked as a miner in Gelsenkirchen and belonged to the resistance group around Franz Zielasko . The arrest warrant for him was issued on May 26, 1944; on August 12, 1944, he was arrested. In the trial before the People's Court he was accused of supporting Franz Zielasko with bread tokens for 600 g, a can of shoe polish and a tube of toothpaste. He was sentenced to death for treason and favoring the enemy and beheaded in Munich-Stadelheim . | ||

Josef Gutgold , a businessman from Lodz , lived with his family in Hamborn , where his two children Leo and Eva were born. The family came to Horst-Emscher in 1925 . He sold his goods (house and table linen) as a peddler at the houses. After their apartment was stormed and devastated by SA men on the morning of November 10, 1938, the family fled to Rotterdam in January / February 1939 from persecution by the Nazis . In 1942, the couple were arrested in the now German-occupied Holland and locked up in the Westerbork transit camp . The location of the murder of Josef Gutgold is unknown. The granddaughter of a contemporary witness who was a regular Gutgold customer and who had bought a bed sheet from him shortly before his flight took over the sponsorship of the Stolperstein for Josef Gutgold, which was laid on April 29, 2013. | ||

Like her husband Josef, Helene Gutgold came from Lodz and lived in Hamborn, where her children Leo and Eva were born. The family had lived in Horst-Emscher since 1925 and fled to Rotterdam from the persecution of the Jews in early 1939. The daughter Eva was brought to safety on a Kindertransport to England and later emigrated from there to Palestine. In 1942 the couple Josef and Helene Gutgold were arrested by the Nazis and locked up in the Westerbork transit camp. Helene Gutgold was deported to the Theresienstadt ghetto on September 4, 1944 with Transport XXIV / 7 and further to the Auschwitz concentration camp on October 4, where she was murdered. Her son Leo, along with his wife and an unknown number of children, was also murdered by the Nazis. | ||
