Beckhausen is a district of the city of Gelsenkirchen with 14,402 inhabitants on an area of ​​6,144 km².

The Gelsenkirchen-Beckhausen district is located in the area of ​​the former farmers' communities Holthausen (northwest, GE-Schaffrath ), Sutum (east, sub-district of the same name in the southeast) and Beckhausen (middle, formerly south) of the former municipality of Buer . The south-west of the district flows in an ECA settlement from the 1950s into Gladbeck - Rosenhügel . Part of this settlement around Otto-Hue-Strasse, which has retained its name in Gladbeck, cannot be reached directly via Gelsenkirchener Strasse.

In the north the district borders on Buer , in the east on Erle (separated by Kurt-Schumacher-Straße), in the south on Horst and in the west on the neighboring town of Gladbeck .

Through Beckhausen u. a. the Lanferbach , which canalised after the site of the former Hugo colliery, is also known as "Köttelbecke" and flows into the Emscher .

In Beckhausen there is also a small part of the former and now greened overburden dump Rungenberg , which today serves as a local recreation area.

One of the most important main thoroughfares is Horster Strasse. Starting from Buer, it leads via Beckhausen in the direction of the Horst district, where it turns into the Kärntener Ring. In the city of Gladbeck , the same route becomes Horster Strasse again. There are several shops on it. There are other shops, banks and supermarkets in Schaffrath and Sutum, as well as several industrial areas, including one on Kampstrasse and in Sutum.
