The Lanferbach is a 4.1 km long tributary of the Emscher in North Rhine-Westphalia . Its catchment area covers 10.51 km².
The stream begins as an open sewer south of the former shafts 2/5/8 of the Hugo colliery at the foot of the Rungenberg dump in Gelsenkirchen and then flows south to the Emscher. The banks in the initial area are secured by sheet piling . The Lanferbach is completely piped below the federal autobahn 2 before it flows through the loosened development in Beckhausen . Before it flows into the Emscher, it passes the premises of a refinery.
In order to compensate for subsidence caused by mining, there is a creek pumping station in the course of the Lanferbach.
