Gelsenkirchen-Neustadt is the smallest district in terms of area of Gelsenkirchen in North Rhine-Westphalia and is located in the south of the city. The area belonging to Neustadt is limited to a few streets south of Gelsenkirchen main station to the border with Ückendorf and Rotthausen . The Neustadt had a total of 4,675 inhabitants on December 31, 2018 and is the much smaller counterpart to the old town in Gelsenkirchen, but also has a pedestrian zone, Bochumer Straße, under which a tunnel of the Gelsenkirchen light rail runs. The underground route ends at the Junkerweg / Bochumer Straße intersection.
From 2013, the new Gelsenkirchen Justice Center was in the new town on the border with Ückendorf built in the beginning 2016, the District Court Gelsenkirchen , which relocated from the Hamburg-Mannheimer house in the Old Town Social Court Gelsenkirchen and the earlier in the new town directly opposite the new construction resident labor court Gelsenkirchen are housed.
