rating

The district with the most inhabitants and the largest area is Buer . While the Scholven district, also located in the northern district, is both the district with the largest industrial as well as the largest agricultural area in Gelsenkirchen, the Resser-Mark district has the largest area used for forestry.

The districts south with 7.9% (or 9.0% in relation to the district area) and east with 9.3% (or 5.4% in relation to the district) have the lowest proportion of the industrially and commercially used area of the city of Gelsenkirchen. . In the Mitte district, on the other hand, with a share of 35.8% industrial and commercial space, measured against the industrial and commercial urban area (or 15.2% in relation to the district), the industrial past can still be recognized. In the north and west urban districts, the figures of 31.3% and 15.6% (in relation to the industrially and commercially used urban area) reflect the large amount of land used by the refineries there .

The three districts north , east and west are used equally for agriculture with approx. 20% of the respective district area, with 43.8% of all agricultural areas of the city in the north district alone . The city districts middle with only 4.4% and south with 11.2% share of the district area are at the bottom. The forestry land use is 15.3% in the district of East (there is the forest area Resser-Mark) is the largest. In relation to the entire urban area, 40.7% of all forestry areas are in the East District .

While a certain agricultural and forestry character is still noticeable in the north and east of the city, as well as in the Beckhausen district, the mining-industrial past of the city with the associated housing developments is particularly noticeable south of the Rhine-Herne Canal when only a few buildings are reminiscent of the former Holland , Rhein-Elbe and Hibernia collieries and the Thyssen cast steelworks.
