The place is located in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in the Lippe district . It is located 10 kilometers north of Lemgo , 20 kilometers north of Detmold, 28 km northeast of Bielefeld , 21 km south of Minden and 14 km southwest of Rinteln . Hohenhausen is located in the valley of the Wester kalle stream at an altitude of about 160 meters above sea level.

history

Hohenhausen was first mentioned in a document around 1018 as Hodanhusun . The formerly independent municipality has been a district and the administrative seat of the newly founded large municipality of Kalletal since the territorial reform of January 1, 1969.

Infrastructure

The federal highway 238 runs through the village from Rinteln to Lemgo. The next motorway exits on the A 2 are Ostwestfalen / Lippe , Vlotho-West (formerly Exter) and Bad Eilsen .

In Lemgo , Vlotho and Rinteln are the nearest regional stations. Regional bus routes run through Hohenhausen. There is a citizens' bus to reach the surrounding villages, which has been called the "Jacobi Line" since 2011.

Economy and tourism

Agriculture only plays a minor role in Hohenhausen. Tourism has also decreased significantly in recent years. However, there are still some overnight accommodations in hotels / inns and guest houses. The local economy is characterized by numerous rather smaller industrial and service companies as well as retail stores.

The industrial park of the same name is located in the north-west of Echternhagen .

There is an outdoor swimming pool on site.

Events

Every two years, on the last weekend in August, the "Heimatfest" takes place in Hohenhausen in odd years. The festivities begin with a torchlight procession through Hohenhausen, which ends at the “Hohenhauser Ententeich”.

The highlight is the parade on Sunday. Everyone is invited to design a foot group or a carriage as they wish. Above all, the local club members take part. The Heimatfest ends on Monday evening with an award for the most beautiful groups of carriages and feet. The Heimatfest is known far beyond the borders of the Kalletal.

Sports

TSG Hohenhausen is the local sports club. There is a soccer, handball and popular sports department. The footballers play in the district league A. The juniors in football play in the JSG Bentorf-Hohenhausen Kalldorf. In 1909 athletic Hohenhausers erected a memorial in honor of Friedrich Ludwig Jahn .

building

Mention should be made of the Evangelical Reformed Church in Hohenhausen. It consists of a Romanesque hall from the 12th century. The vaulting, choir and heightening of the west tower followed in the 15th century. The building of the Corves mill from the Renaissance period is used today, among other things, as a library and community center. Outside the town center is the listed courtyard with the Hohenhausen -Dalbke watermill. The listed Jewish cemetery in Hohenhausen is a reminder of the former Jewish community .
