history

Former Lippisches Zollhaus

Erder is first mentioned in writing in 1151 as Artheren . In 1733 Princess Pauline zur Lippe planned to build a large inland port in Erder. The plan was not implemented, however, because Prussia did not want to allow competition for its ports in Minden and Vlotho. Nevertheless, the Weser port in Erder was of some importance for the Principality of Lippe . A road was built between Erder and Lemgo through which goods from Bremen , such as sugar, coffee, rice and herrings, were transported to Lippe. For many migrant workers, mainly Ziegler , the first two Weser steamers Hermann and Wittekind were a comfortable way to travel from Erder to Bremen. From there the journey continued to East Frisia and Holland . That only changed when the railroad through Lippe was completed in 1895/96 and the bricklayers set off from the placement center in Lage to their workplaces. Erder was also the starting point for many American emigrants in the 19th century.

In 1823, the Bremen Weser Shipping Act re-regulated the voyage and customs on the Weser. For Lippe, 13 pfennigs per ship pound (300 pounds from Bremen) were allowed to be levied on ships sailing on the Weser at the Erder customs station.

Until the middle of the 19th century, the place, as the outermost tip of the Principality of Lippe-Detmold, was the customs border with the Prussian province of Hessen-Nassau .

Around 1833, the Lippische Zollhaus was built using clay construction. Here the so-called “Bremen goods” (tobacco, colonial and household goods) and goods transported downstream (gravel, sandstone and grain) were cleared. When it joined the German Customs Union in 1842, this inner German customs border disappeared. After that the building was used as a school. After 1950, a sewing shop for women's fashion was built on the lower floor and living rooms on the upper floor. The house has been used as a residential building since 1969.

As part of the municipal reorganization according to the Lemgo law , the place became on January 1, 1969 the northernmost district of the Lippe municipality of Kalletal .
