List of weapons systems used by the Greek Air Force
The Greek Air Force is a part of the Greek Armed Forces . They maintain around 200 3rd generation combat aircraft and around 140 2nd generation aircraft. The backbone of the Air Force are the F-16 and Mirage 2000 fighter jets. Most of the aircraft has been imported from the USA and France in the past. Some of the photo scouts come from the Bundeswehr inventory at the beginning of the 1990s. The Greek Air Force maintains the largest air fire fighting fleet in Europe.
Aircraft
Fighter bomber
At the end of the 1990s, 35 aircraft were upgraded in combat value in cooperation with EADS for around EUR 500 million. All other Phantom machines were retired.
The Greek government ordered a total of 170 units of the type. Thereof 40 machine block 30.40 machine block 50 and 90 machine block 52+ which have additional integrated tanks.
A total of 55 machines of the type were ordered. 25 of these machines are a modified version.
The Greek Air Force received 125 Corsair from the US Navy inventory. The last machines were taken out of service in 2014.
Reconnaissance aircraft
A total of 30 photo reconnaissance aircraft - 22 of them from the Bundeswehr fleet - were in operation, all of them out of service.
