Catholic parish church Mariae Himmelfahrt
ObjectID:  8225

KG location
: Mariasdorf
The late Gothic parish church Mariae Himmelfahrt is one of the most beautiful in Burgenland. Construction began around 1400 on the site of an existing church, but probably stopped in the early 15th century. Work continued towards the end of the century. In the 17th and 18th centuries the church was rebuilt in order to adapt it to the Baroque taste of the time. In 1882–99, these modifications were largely reversed under the direction of Imre Steindl and the building was redesigned in Gothic style. The high altar, the pulpit, the baptismal font, all made of ceramics made by the Zsolnay porcelain factory and the stained glass windows by Miksa Roth, bear witness to this second, neo-Gothic reconstruction .
