After Oberwart's economic boom and Stadtschlaining's decline took place in the course of the 19th century , a Jewish community formed over time. In addition to the synagogue, the rabbinate house, which is often incorrectly referred to as the Jewish school, was also built. The house housed the rabbi's apartment and office. Religious instruction for the Jewish students took place in the official premises, but the house did not house a Jewish school.

The two-storey, octagonal cattle hall under a cantilevered tent roof, which is also crowned by an octagonal lantern with a tent roof, was built by the Upper Austrian timber construction company Johann Obermayr from Schwanenstadt and the master builder Gustav Steurer from Oberwart.

An essentially Romanesque building with a mighty west tower, long nave and small recessed round apse . The tower was expanded in 1656 and around 1800 an upper floor and the onion helmet were added to it. In 1975, Romanesque windows were uncovered on the south front of the nave, which was baroque in 1728 and 1778 . In the same year the Romanesque apse was excavated.

The small central building with a cross-shaped floor plan was built between 1795 and 1798. A turret with a bell-shaped helmet is located above the western gable facade. The high altar is classical and dates from the end of the 18th century.
