Catholic parish church of St. Martin in St. Martin in der Wart

The Roman Catholic parish church St. Martin in der Wart is located in the village of St. Martin in der Wart in the municipality of Oberwart in the Oberwart district in Burgenland . It is consecrated to St. Martin and belongs to the Pinkafeld dean's office in the Eisenstadt diocese . The building is under monument protection ( list entry ).

Location description

The church stands at the eastern exit of the village of St. Martin in der Wart.

history

The parish was founded before 1697. The current church was built between 1795 and 1798. In 1871 the interior was restored and in 1897 an exterior renovation took place. A total renovation took place in 1971 and 1972.

The church is a small central building over a cross-shaped floor plan. Above the western gable facade is a small tower with a bell-shaped spire.

The central yoke is under a square, the cross arms under rectangular square vaults . The organ loft and the sacristy were demolished in 1971.

Furnishing

The classicistic high altar dates from the end of the 18th century. The altarpiece shows St. Martin as a bishop. The picture is signed "Dachmayr, Wienn, pinxit 1797". It was painted in 1797. and restored by F. Rath in 1871 . The picture is flanked by two figures in front of double columns. The figures from the second half of the 19th century represent the saints Florian and Augustine . The pulpit with plaited decoration was built in 1798 and restored in 1897. A remarkable oil painting hangs in the western arm of the cross, depicting the "finding of the cross by Empress Helena ". It was painted in the mid-17th century and restored in 1972. It was removed from the Vorau parish church around 1700 and donated to the parish in St. Martin by the Vorau monastery . Above the sacristy door is an oil painting of St. Martin by F. Rath . It was painted in 1878.
