The Jewish cemetery near the city center was robbed of most of its gravestones during the Nazi era . A memorial was created from the rubble and fragments of the synagogue on the cemetery grounds, and symbolic gravestones were erected on the fallow area. Jews were first mentioned in Mattersburg in 1529. Around 1770 179 Jewish families lived in the city.

The parish church stands on a hill south of the city in the old cemetery with a defensive wall. It was built in the 14th and 15th centuries, presumably using older masonry. The tower was built as part of a renovation in 1659, and the two aisles were added in the 18th century. In the east, the three-aisled nave is connected to the choir, which is essentially late Gothic; The four-storey tower stands in the northern corner of the choir. The remarkable pulpit dates from around 1700, the neo-Gothic high altar from around 1870.

The Gothic light column is now in the city park and is marked 1446. It was restored and partially renewed at the end of the 19th century.

The warrior chapel was built to commemorate the fallen from World War I and World War II. It was built in 1925. In the course of the Second World War, the chapel was severely damaged. Three years after the end of the Second World War, in 1948, the chapel was renovated for the first time. The renovation was completed on October 22, 2018.

The Fischer- or Stegkreuz, also called Josefskreuz, stands at the confluence of the Wulka and Gaisgrabenbach. On a smooth granite column on a square pedestal stands a figure of St. Joseph with a lily and baby Jesus on his arm. It bears the inscription "Paul Gerstl (Hofglasermeister) 1682". According to the inscription, the column was restored by Johann and Emilie Fischer in 1899.

The Catholic parish church in the center of the village is a late Baroque central building with a west tower and was built from 1794 to 1798. The interior furnishings all date from the second half of the 18th century and were donated by Prince Nikolaus II Esterházy.
