The Roman Catholic parish church of Walbersdorf is located in the center of Walbersdorf in the Mattersburg community in the Mattersburg district in Burgenland . It is consecrated to St. Leonhard of Limoges and belongs to the Deanery Mattersburg in the Diocese of Eisenstadt . The church is a listed building ( list entry ).

history

The parish Walbersdorf was established in the pre-Reformation period and was also evangelical at times . The church was built between 1794 and 1797. The church tower was built in the years 1796 to 1798. Between 1973 and 1979 the church was completely restored.

Church exterior

The church is a late baroque central building with a west tower. In front of the narrow gable facade is a church tower free-standing on three sides. There is a gable portal in the basement. Above it is a strong main cornice. Above the richly profiled cornice is a pagoda-shaped brick helmet. The nave is short and the choir with a semicircular apse is retracted. A sacristy is built on the south side of the choir .

Church interior

Above the square central yoke there is a square vault , which rests on fluted pilasters . The central yoke is separated from the short gallery and choir yoke by fluted belt arches . The west gallery is pillarless and has a double curved parapet. On this is in a cartridge with the inscription "LA 1796". The apse is vaulted with two stab caps .

Furnishing

The facility was donated by Prince Nikolaus II Esterházy . The altars come from the abandoned Augustinian convent and the pulpit from the mountain church in Eisenstadt . The high altar dates from the second half of the 18th century. In the free-standing cafeteria is a rococo - Tabernacle , flanked by six chandeliers. An oil painting in a ray frame of St. Leonhard. On the wall is a large oil painting depicting the “ Marriage of Mary ”. This is flanked by two remarkable wooden figures depicting two church fathers. The side altars were created in the second half of the 18th century. They consist of stucco walls with entablature tops on Corinthian columns. The "Crucifixion of Jesus" is depicted on the left altarpiece. It is flanked by figures of Saints Joachim and Anna . In the rococo tabernacle there is a reliquary for a cross particle. The right side altar picture shows the "birth of Jesus". The side figures represent the holy kings Stephen and Ladislaus . The replica of the Mariazell image of grace is placed in a rococo case . The pulpit dates from the second half of the 18th century. On the basket is a relief of the “ Good Shepherd ”. There is a statue of a bishop on the cover . The font was created at the end of the 18th century. A copy of the " Infant Jesus of Prague " is in a showcase under the gallery . Two oil paintings from the end of the 18th century hang on the walls of the Chorjoch. One shows the "Adoration of the Magi ", the other the " Last Supper ".
