The Lithuanian language Wikipedia ( lit.Lietuviškoji Vikipedija ) is the Wikipedia edition in Lithuanian . It has almost 174,000 articles (September 2015) and is the largest of the Wikipedia language versions for Baltic languages .

History and statistics

The Lithuanian language Wikipedia began in early 2003. On February 20, 2003, the first article " kompiuteris " was created. From 2004 to 2005 the number of employees skyrocketed, at that time there were a few hundred articles. The thousand mark for articles was reached in October 2004, the ten thousand mark in December 2005 and the hundred thousand mark in January 2010.

As of April 2012, the Lithuanian language Wikipedia has over 150,000 articles. In September 2015 the number of articles was approx. 174,000.

Community

The users (lit. Naudotojas ) come mainly from Lithuania ; most speak Lithuanian as their mother tongue. There are 24 admins and 4 of them are crats . There are 455 active users per month (with at least one edit). There are only 4 active admins (with at least ten admin actions in the last three months), including 1 crat . There are around 500 edits every day.

In real life there have not yet been any official meetings, round tables or other events among the members of the Lithuanian-speaking Wikipedia community . Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales visited Lithuania in 2005 and 2012. The last time he gave a presentation at the “Login 2012” conference in Vilnius .

The operator of the Lithuanian-language Wikipedia and all other language versions of the free Internet encyclopedia is the Wikimedia Foundation in San Francisco, USA.

Content

As with all other Wikipedia editions, the content depends primarily on user contributions. In addition to topics that are traditionally associated with the Baltic and Lithuanian language and culture, such as the Baltic States and Vilnius , there are e.g. B. also articles on living people (approx. 10,000 articles, including Sabonis , Landsbergis ) or regional studies.
