The literary society Gertrud von le Fort e. V. was founded in 2006. It is an association of people from home and abroad who feel connected to the work of the poet Gertrud von le Fort (1876–1971). The company is entered in the register of associations of the Kempten (Allgäu) local court and recognized by the Kempten (Allgäu) tax office as non-profit in the sense of the tax code . The name of the society was from 2006 to 2008 Literaturmuseum Gertrud von le Fort e. V.
goals and tasks
The purpose of the association was initially "the initiation and promotion of measures that aim to establish memorials, museums and archives on the life and literary work of Gertrud von le Forts". The founding members wanted to find an appropriate memorial or museum in Oberstdorf, where the poet lived from 1940 until her death in 1971. Since 2008, the society has broadened its statutory objectives and sees its purpose as “conveying the literary work of Gertrud von le Forts and other writers and poets who have a regional reference through their lives and / or work”. In addition to Gertrud von le Fort, writers such as W. G. Sebald (1944–2001) are now in the focus of the literary name society and poets who were connected to Gertrud von le Fort, such as Hermann Hesse (1877–1962), Agnes Miegel (1879 –1964), Arthur Maximilian Miller (1901–1992), Luise Rinser (1911–2002), Reinhold Schneider (1903–1958), Ina Seidel (1885–1974) and Carl Zuckmayer (1896–1977).
activities
The primary goal of the company is to cultivate and expand knowledge of the works of these people. This is achieved in particular through events that serve to convey the life and work of the people referred to in the statutes. In addition, the literary society will continue to initiate and promote the establishment of a memorial to Gertrud von le Fort. The society seeks cooperation with other literary societies, with museums, archives and schools. Scientific research and, in particular, the treatment of the poets mentioned in the statutes and their works in school literature lessons are important to her. The cooperation with the Gertrud-von-le-Fort-Archiv Ofterschwang and the Gertrud-von-le-Fort-Gymnasium Oberstdorf has a special place.
