Coordinates: 33 ° 29 ′ S , 150 ° 9 ′ E The City of Lithgow is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of New South Wales . The area is 4,512.3 km² and has about 21,000 inhabitants.
Lithgow is located on the eastern edge of the central-west region of the state about 140 km northwest of the metropolis of Sydney . The area consists of 97 hamlets and hamlets, including Angus Place, Bogee, Ben Bullen, Bowenfels, Capertee, Cullen Bullen, Glen Alice, Glen Davis, Hampton, Hartley, Lithgow , Marrangaroo, Newnes, Palmers Oaky, Portland, Rydal, Sodwalls, Wallerawang and parts of Meadow Flat and Tarana. The seat of the City Council is in the city of Lithgow in the southern half of the LGA, which has about 11,500 inhabitants.

The Lithgow City Council has nine members. Eight councilors and the chairman of the council and mayor are directly elected by the residents of the LGA. Lithgow is not divided into districts.
