Little Cayman is the third largest of the Cayman Islands with an area of 28.5 km² . 115 of the 39,020 inhabitants of the Cayman Islands live on this island (as of 1999), but most of them do not come from the Cayman Islands. The island, which is over 40 percent covered by wetlands, is still relatively undeveloped. The island is about 16 kilometers long and 1.5 kilometers wide.

In the southwest of Little Cayman there is an airfield with an unpaved runway. The residents are dependent on tourism and mostly work in one of the resorts . The island also has the Little Cayman Museum and the Booby Pond Nature Reserve , a nature reserve that is home to 20,000 red-footed boobies and 350 frigate birds . There are also some iguanas on the island , for which their own traffic signs have been set up, and a large number of birds.

The island, like Cayman Brac, was discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1503 . The first settlements on the Cayman Islands were established by fishermen and turtle hunters around 1600 on Little Cayman, but the island had not been settled again since the attack by a Spanish pirate in 1671, when Blossom Village was built. Around 1900 there was a population of several hundred people, the export goods were phosphate ores , ship ropes and coconuts . Since a hurricane caused great damage in 1932, many left the island again.

The phosphate mines are no longer in operation, but can still be visited.
