Liu Xiaofeng

Liu Xiaofeng (刘小枫; * April 1956 in Chongqing ) is a contemporary Chinese philosopher of international standing. He was editor of the magazine Daofeng , which deals with the dialogue between Western (Christian) culture and traditional Chinese culture. It will be published at the Taofong Shan in Hong Kong . Much of his work is devoted to the phenomenon of "cultural Christianity". He is currently teaching at Guangzhou University . Leo Strauss is one of his newer topics. He is considered one of the most controversial thinkers in contemporary China. His interpretation of Western ideas, especially Strauss' thinking, has repeatedly been criticized as problematic. His apology for the current political regime in the People's Republic of China is hardly compatible with the image of an idealized, western civilization that pervades his writings.

biography

From 1978 he studied at the Sichuan Foreign Language University (四川 外语 学院 | 四川 外语 学院) and in 1982 switched to the philosophical faculty of Peking University (北京大学). Since 1985 he has taught Chinese and Chinese culture at Shenzhen University (深圳 大学). In 1989 he went to the University of Basel , where he earned a doctorate in theology . Since then he has taught at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (香港 中文 大学), the Peking University (北京大学) and the Sun Yat-sen University (中山大学) in Guangzhou . He was the editor of the aforementioned "Daofeng" at the Institute of Sino-Christian Studies in Hong Kong. He has also held teaching positions at the Chinese People's University (中国 人民 大学) in Beijing, Fudan University (复旦大学) in Shanghai and at the University of Political Science and Law of Southwest China (西南 政法 大学) in Chongqing.
