Liu Ye (Ziyang)

Liu Ye ( Chinese  劉 曄  /  刘 晔 ; * 171 ; † 234 ), majority name Ziyang , was an advisor to the Chinese warlord Cao Cao at the time of the Three Kingdoms .

He was descended from the Han Emperor Guangwu and was part of the family of Emperor Xian . His friend Guo Jia proposed him as an advisor to Cao Cao, and Liu Ye introduced him to his friends Man Chong and Lu Qian . Liu Ye exposed the assassination attempt by Chen Gong in Puyang and warned Cao Cao. Nevertheless Cao Cao suffered a defeat against the warlord Lü Bu .

After the defeat, Cao Cao Puyang attacked again and drove Lü Bu. Liu Ye was entrusted with the city defense, while Cao Cao persecuted Lu Bu. When Cao Cao later accepted the post of Prime Minister of Han, Liu Ye was appointed Minister of Labor. Later, Liu Ye was promoted to chief administrative assistant, chief secretary, and senior adviser.

Cao Cao died in 220, and his son and successor Cao Pi forced Emperor Xian to abdicate in his favor. Cao Pi promoted Liu Ye to privy councilor in 221 and granted him the title of lord of the second rank . Under Cao Rui this title was changed to Herr von Dongting in 226 .

When Cao Pi Sun Quan , the nine bestowments wanted to offer, Liu Ye advised him of it and cleared it, the battle of Shu and Wu to be seen. But Cao Pi refused the advice and sent ambassadors to Wu.

During Cao Zhen's campaign against Shu (230), Liu Ye was appointed commander in chief, but the campaign had to be stopped due to heavy rains. Two years later, Liu Ye became Imperial State Secretary and Minister of Protocol. Another two years later he was asked to give up his duties as Imperial Secretary of State. He died at the age of 63 and was given the posthumous title of Revered Lord .
