Live Skull was a noise rock band from New York City formed in 1983 . Along with Sonic Youth , Rat At Rat R and Swans , the group is one of the pioneers of noise rock in the United States.

history

The band was founded in 1983 in New York City by guitarist duo Mark C. and Tom Paine. The first line-up was completed with drummer James Lo and bassist Marnie Greenholz, who was also Tom Paine's girlfriend. The self-titled debut EP was released in 1984 by Massive , followed by a recording contract with Homestead Records . The label released their debut album Bringing Home the Bait in 1985 and Cloud One in 1986 . A live recording in the CBGB from 1986 was released in 1987 as a live album Don't Get Any on You . Until then, the two guitarists and bassist Greenholz had shared the vocals, but the band wanted a stronger vocal performance. The choice fell on Thalia Zedek from Boston , who had already sung in various punk bands. Drummer James Lo was replaced by Rich Hutchins (ex- Ruin ). Dusted was recorded in this line-up , the last release for Homestead. Robert Palmer from Spin wrote in a review of the album that the music of Live Skull and Sonic Youth was the next logical step in the musical development. Live Skull switched to Caroline , where the band debuted in 1988 with the EP Snuffer . A little later bassist Greenholz left the group, and Sonda Andersson (ex- Rat At Rat R ) came for her . After the 1989 album Positraction , which was largely positively received by critics , Live Skull broke up in 1990.
