Livingstone Motor Assemblers Ltd. (also Livingstone Motor Assemblies ) was an automobile manufacturer based in Livingstone ( Zambia ).

history

The company was founded in the 1960s. It was a joint venture between Fiat (30%, later 20%), the state-owned INDECO Limited (35%) and Zambia National Holdings (hotel group, 35%). At times 300 people were employed. There were frequent business interruptions and in early 1980 production dropped to 4 vehicles per day. This was justified with operational and currency problems. The plant last had 130 employees and a theoretical annual capacity of 4500 vehicles.

The company was shut down in 1992. A bankruptcy petition was filed in 1995. The participation in LMA was listed in the 2001 Fiat annual report.

The lifting of import restrictions at the beginning of the 1990s is seen as the cause of the failure of LMA, Rover (Zambia) and other companies in the industry.

Models

The company assembled Fiat 127 , 128 and 132 , among others . The Regata is said to have been one of the last Fiat models .

Likewise were Isuzu pickup trucks, Mazda passenger hatchbacks ( 323 ), Mercedes-Benz -Lastkraftwagen and the Peugeot 504 mounted here.
