Lizums is a settlement and the capital of the Lizums municipality in the Gulbene district of Livonia with 1,414 inhabitants.
etymology
In the Latvian language, lizums is a tall person; it can therefore be assumed that the first inhabitants of the parish were tall. Another theory is that the name is related to what people do. There used to be a lot of forests here. In order to make the land arable, a clearing ( līdums ) was created, which was called a līzums in the local dialect .
history
The settlement was built around the Lisohn manor after the opening of the Ieriķi - Gulbene railway line, which was closed in 1916. In 1933 Lizum received the status of a densely populated village.
