geography

Deyzeibon is located in the city center of Niamey and is bordered to the north by the Boulevard de l'Indépendance. The surrounding neighborhoods are Boukoki I in the north, Gandatché in the east, Maourey in the south and Zongo in the west. Deyzeibon extends over an area of about 19.1 hectares and is located in a plateau with a layer of sand more than 2.5 meters deep, which allows better infiltration than in other parts of the city.

The standard scheme for street names in Deyzeibon and the neighboring Gandatché district is Rue LI 1 . The French rue for street is followed by the abbreviation LI for the Boulevard de la Liberté, which runs through Deyzeibon, and finally a number. This goes back to a project to name streets in Niamey in 2002, in which the city was divided into 44 zones, each with its own letter abbreviations.

history

As a result of the famine in Niger in 1931, an estimated 22,000 to 23,000 people moved to Niamey, where the French colonial administration distributed food free of charge. This migration formed the basis of the new settlements of Deyzeibon and Koira Tagui . Deyzeibon emerged as a separate district in the late 1930s.

50 households in Deyzeibon were affected by a major fire on March 21, 2018. 20 houses were completely destroyed and one woman died as a result of the fire.

population

At the 2012 census, Deyzeibon had 3719 inhabitants who lived in 752 households. At the 2001 census, the population was 4,653 in 747 households.

Infrastructure

The public primary school Ecole primaire de Deyzeibon was founded in 1989. There is a health center in the district with a Center de Santé Intégré (CSI).
