Banizoumbou II (also: Banizoumbou 2 , Est Lazaret ) is a district ( French : quartier ) in the Arrondissement Niamey II of the city of Niamey in Niger .

geography

Banizoumbou II is located in the northeast of the urban municipality on the edge of the Niamey green belt . The neighboring districts are North Lazaret in the north, Banifandou II in the southeast, Cité Caisse in the south, Banifandou I in the southwest and Lazaret in the west. Like the entire north of Niamey, the district is located in a plateau with a layer of sand less than 2.5 meters deep, which means that only limited infiltration is possible.

The standard scheme for street names in Banizoumbou II is Rue LZ 1 , where the French Rue for street is followed by the abbreviation LZ for Lazaret and finally a number. This goes back to a project to name streets in Niamey in 2002, in which the city was divided into 44 zones, each with its own letter abbreviations. These zones do not necessarily coincide with the administrative boundaries of the eponymous districts. The rue LZ 1 scheme is used in the districts of Lazaret, Banizoumbou II and Nord Lazaret.

history

There is an older district in the center of Niamey called Banizoumbou . The Banizoumbou II district was created in the early 1990s when it was subdivided for residential buildings. The inhabitants of the informal straw hut settlements that had sprung up here in previous years were displaced into the neighboring green belt of Niamey.

population

At the 2012 census, Banizoumbou II had 24,609 inhabitants who lived in 3824 households.
