Banifandou II (also: Banifandou 2 , Bani Fandou 2 , Bani Fandou II ) is a district ( French : quartier ) in Arrondissement Commune III of the city Niamey in Niger .

geography

The avenue des Aménokal forms the border between the districts of Banifandou II, here on the left, and Route Filingué , here on the right (2018)

Banifandou II is located in the east of the urban municipality. The green belt of Niamey extends to the east of the district . The neighboring districts are Route Filingué in the southeast, Bandabari and Couronne North in the southwest, Banifandou I in the west and Cité Caisse and Banizoumbou II in the north. Like the entire northeast of Niamey, Banifandou II lies in a plateau with a sand layer less than 2.5 meters deep, which means that only limited infiltration is possible. Only in a small southern section of Banifandou II does the sand layer reach a depth of more than 2.5 meters.

The standard scheme for street names in Banifandou II is rue BF 1 , where the French rue for street is followed by the abbreviation BF for Banifandou and finally a number. This goes back to a project to name streets in Niamey in 2002, in which the city was divided into 44 zones, each with its own letter abbreviations. The street names in the districts of Banifandou I and Cité Caisse follow the standard pattern of Rue BF 1 .

history

The Banifandou II neighborhood, like a number of other new neighborhoods, emerged in the 1980s, a decade of particularly rapid population growth in Niamey.

population

At the 2012 census, Banifandou II had 16,880 inhabitants who lived in 2,599 households. At the 2001 census, the population was 36,798 in 5803 households.

Infrastructure

The Marché Bonkaney is a 3.5-hectare market in Banifandou II, located in a wood. It was created in 2002 from a storage facility for vegetables from the outskirts of the city and primarily serves to supply the population of the district. The secondary school Collège d'enseignement général 11 (CEG 11) has existed since 1981 and the secondary school Collège d'enseignement général 24 Mahamane Ousmane (CEG 24 Mahamane Ousmane) since 1999.
