geography

Boukoki IV belongs to the north of the historic center of Niamey city district Boukoki . The neighboring districts are Couronne Nord in the north, Madina in the east, Abidjan in the south, Boukoki I in the southwest and Boukoki II in the northwest. Boukoki IV extends over an area of almost 100 hectares and is located in a plateau with a layer of sand that, apart from a section in the north, is more than 2.5 meters deep, which allows better infiltration than in other parts of the city.

The standard scheme for street names in Boukoki IV is rue BK 1 , where the French rue for street is followed by the abbreviation BK for Boukoki and finally a number. This goes back to a project to name streets in Niamey in 2002, in which the city was divided into 44 zones, each with its own letter abbreviations.

history

In the 1960s, housing developments for immigrants from the interior of the country developed in the individual quarters of Boukoki, who moved to the capital partly because of the poor food situation in the country. Boukoki IV was only partially built up in the 1970s and had a large tree-lined fruit and vegetable growing area in its center.

population

At the 2012 census, Boukoki IV had 18,155 inhabitants who lived in 3,245 households. At the 2001 census the population was 21,749 in 3,493 households, and at the 1988 census the population was 14,502 in 2,530 households.

Infrastructure

There is a health center in the district with a Center de Santé Intégré (CSI).
