geography

Boukoki I belongs to the north of the historic center of Niamey city district Boukoki . The neighboring districts are Boukoki II in the north, Abidjan and Boukoki IV in the east, Deyzeibon and Gandatché in the south and Boukoki III in the west. The district is located in a plateau with a sand layer more than 2.5 meters deep, which allows better infiltration than in other parts of the city.

The standard scheme for street names in Boukoki I is rue BK 1 , where the French rue for street is followed by the abbreviation BK for Boukoki and finally a number. This goes back to a project to name streets in Niamey in 2002, in which the city was divided into 44 zones, each with its own letter abbreviations.

history

In the 1960s, housing developments for immigrants from the interior of the country developed in the individual quarters of Boukoki, who moved to the capital partly because of the poor food situation in the country.

population

At the 2012 census, Boukoki I had 12,755 inhabitants who lived in 2,294 households. At the 2001 census, the population was 11,803 in 1,896 households, and at the 1988 census, the population was 8,959 in 1,657 households.

Infrastructure

In the district is the 2.7 hectare market area of the Marché de Boukoki . The market dates back to 1959 and is especially important for the people living in Boukoki. On the other hand, the 15.7 hectare Marché de Katako , which was founded in 1960 and lies in the south of Boukoki I, has a radiance far beyond the city limits . South of the Marché de Katako are several educational institutions, including the Lycée Kassaï and the public primary schools named after Hamani Diori Ecole primaire Diori I and Ecole primaire Diori II , which were founded in 1952 and 1959, respectively.
