Issa Béri (also: Issa Béry ) is a district ( French : quartier ) in the Arrondissement Niamey II of the city of Niamey in Niger .

Issa Béri is located in the city center of Niamey. The district is in the northwest of the district plateau in a plateau with a more than 2.5 meter-deep layer of sand, providing a better infiltration than is possible in other parts of the city. The surrounding districts include Dar Es Salam in the north, Tourakou in the northeast, Boukoki III in the east and Plateau 2 in the west.

The standard scheme for street names in Issa Béri is rue IB 1 , where the French rue for street is followed by IB for Issa Béri and finally a number. This goes back to a project to name streets in Niamey in 2002, in which the city was divided into 44 zones, each with its own letter abbreviations.

history

The Issa Béri residential area was created between 1971 and 1976 through the construction of medium and high-quality apartments for senior officials. The place name Issa Béri comes from the Zarma language , literally means “great river” and describes the Niger river , on which Niamey lies.

population

At the 2012 census, Issa Béri had 2812 inhabitants who lived in 522 households.

Infrastructure

There are several educational institutions in Issa Béri. The Lycée Issa Béri middle school dates back to 1966. The oldest public primary school, the Ecole primaire de Foulankoira I , was founded in 1975.
