Kongou Gorou

Kongou Gorou (also: Kongou Gorou Tondi Metchirey ) is a village in the Niamey III arrondissement of the city of Niamey in Niger .

The village, run by a traditional chief (chef traditionnel) , is located in the rural municipality of Niamey. The surrounding settlements include the villages of Kongou Gonga in the northeast and Kongou Zarmagandey in the southwest. The dry valley Kori de Ouallam runs near Kongou Gorou . The word gorou comes from the Zarma language and means "dry valley". The corresponding word in the Hausa language is kori . In the traditional system of rulership, the mayor of the village reports to the head of the canton of Saga .

At the 2012 census, Kongou Gorou had 3,608 residents in 480 households. At the 2001 census, the population was 558 in 86 households.

The public primary school Ecole primaire de Kongou Gorou was founded in 1983. There is a health center in the village with a Center de Santé Intégré (CSI). Hundreds of orchards and nurseries extend between Kongou Gorou and the neighboring village of Kongou Zarmagandey, supplying Niamey with fresh fruit and vegetables.
