The Gulbene district (Gulbenes novads) is located in northeastern Latvia in the historic Vidzeme countryside .
geography
The Pededze flows through the area in the rather flat east and the Gauja in the hilly, wooded west . In addition to the Riga - Pytalowo railway line , there is also a narrow-gauge railway , the Gulbene – Alūksne railway line .

The district consists of the fourteen parishes (pagasts) Beļava, Dauksti, Druviena, Galgauska, Jaungulbene, Lejasciems, Litene, Lizums, Līgo, Ranka, Stāmeriena, Stradi, Tirza and the administrative center Gulbene . 25 073 inhabitants (2009) live in the Gulbene district, which is one of the larger Latvians in terms of area.
