The District Jelgava ( Jelgavas novads ) is an administrative district in Latvia , southwest of Riga in the landscape Semgallen located.
geography
The area is flat and the soils are among the best in Latvia. In addition to the Lielupe , the rivers Bērze , Svēte , Vircava and Platone run through the district. Lithuania borders in the south .
population
The district has existed since 2009 and was formed from the town of Kalnciems and 13 rural communities. The administrative center is located in Jelgava , although this city as a "republic city" is not part of the district. (see also: Administrative division of Latvia )
In 2010, 27,103 inhabitants were registered.
