The district is located in the west of the country on the Riga Bay .

population

From 2008, the municipalities of Mērsrags and Roja formed a joint administrative unit before the municipal council decided in 2010 to form its own “novads”. In 2010 there were 1,823 inhabitants in the entire municipality, in 2016 there were 1712 inhabitants.
