The Garkalne District (Garkalnes novads) is located in the center of Latvia in the historical Vidzeme countryside .
geography
The district is located northeast of Riga and east of Lake Baltezers . The Pskov Chaussee and the railway line Riga - Valga parallel northeast through the district. The area is characterized by extensive pine forests .

The district consists only of the municipality (pagasts) Garkalne , the administrative center is in the Riga suburb of Berģi . 7,227 inhabitants (2010) live in the Garkalne district.
