The Saldus District (Saldus novads) is located in southwest Latvia in the historical Kurzeme countryside .
geography
The district borders with Lithuania . In 1999 a collective cemetery for those killed in the Second World War was opened in the Novadnieki municipality . It is the largest cemetery of its kind in the Baltic countries. Over 20,000 dead are buried there. Riverside Ciecere can Janis Rozentāls -Stein be visited. Well-known pictures of the painter were created here.
